Important things to know
Quick question: How many times have you opened LinkedIn and seen someone announce, "I'm excited to share that I've accepted a remote role with a company in Canada!" or "Happy to announce that I've joined a company in the UK!"
And then there’s you, smiling for them but quietly asking yourself, "God, when will it be my turn?" The funny thing is, a lot of people think these opportunities happen by luck or by connection, or maybe they’re just exaggerating. Well, sometimes that's true, but most of the time these people have simply made themselves visible.
Global opportunities don't magically find people hiding in the shadows. If recruiters can't find you, they can't hire you. If employers don't know you exist, they can't reach out to you. So if you're wondering how to stay visible to global opportunities, grab your popcorn (or your chin-chin). Let's talk.
First Things First, What Does "Being Visible" Even Mean?
No, it doesn't mean posting motivational quotes on LinkedIn every day. Neither does it mean becoming a content creator overnight. It definitely doesn't mean disturbing everybody on your contact list.
Being visible simply means making it easy for the right people to find you, trust you, and believe you're capable of doing the job.
Think about it this way. If someone searched for a professional with your skills today, would they find you? Or would your LinkedIn profile still be saying, “Experienced professional seeking opportunities.” It's 2026; let’s be serious.
You need to understand that your LinkedIn profile is your digital CV, and whether you like it or not, recruiters are searching LinkedIn every single day. It’s one major place to stay visible. In fact, some recruiters won’t even ask for your CV until they’ve checked your LinkedIn profile. So let's do a quick audit.
Does your profile have:
- A professional picture?
- A headline that tells people what you do?
- An "About" section that sounds like a human being wrote it? (Your key achievements must be highlighted here).
- Your recent experiences?
- Relevant skills?
- Recommendations from people you've worked with?
- The “Open to Work” label?
If you answered "I'll update it later" to most of these, this is me reminding you. Later has been later for six months now. (Side eye)
Stop Being Invisible Online
Have you ever thought about this scenario? “A recruiter googling your name before reaching out.”
What will they find? - Your professional achievements?
Or your Facebook post from 2018 arguing about which country makes the best jollof rice? (It’s still Nigeria :)
Back to the point, what pops up about you when you’re actively being searched? It’s important to have a professional footprint online. Post your thoughts in line with your career, share what you're learning, celebrate your wins (small ones count too), and write about projects you've worked on.
People trust people they can see. They love to see proof; it goes a long way.
Learn Skills That Global Companies Want
Another mistake people make is thinking technical skills are enough. Yes, of course, they’re important, very important, but they’re not the whole package.
Can you communicate clearly?
Can you manage projects effectively?
Can you easily adapt to new technology?
Recruiters want to know you have great soft, practical skills alongside your technical skills.
That’s one of the reasons internship opportunities are so valuable. At Amdari, our work experience programs are designed to help professionals gain hands-on experience, work on real projects, collaborate with teams, and develop the practical skills global employers are looking for because at the end of the day, employers don't just want people who know the theory. They want people who have actually done the work.
Networking goes a long way
Also, you need to learn how to network to stay visible. Networking doesn't mean sending random messages that say, "Hello, I need a job." Please don't.
This is how best to network:
- Comment thoughtfully on posts. Not just on your peers' posts but on top leaders' posts related to your career path. This pushes your profile to the top leaders in related fields.
- Attend webinars.
- Join professional communities.
- Connect with recruiters and pitch yourself in 5 lines. Talk about what you do, your skills, your key achievements, and how you aim to impact the company if brought on board.
- Celebrate other people's wins.
- Ask genuine questions.
Now, don’t expect results immediately. Give it time; relationships grow over time. You don't plant a seed today and expect to harvest tomorrow.
Keep Your Documents Ready
Imagine getting your dream opportunity today. Yes, today.
- Would your CV be ready?
- Would your LinkedIn profile be updated?
- Would your portfolio reflect your best work?
- Would your certificates be easy to find?
Or would you say, "Please give me one week." Preparation is part of visibility. When opportunity knocks, you shouldn't be running around looking for your everything.
Here's a small weekly challenge.
Don't worry. I'm not about to tell you to spend six hours every day on LinkedIn. Let's keep it simple.
Monday: Update one section of your LinkedIn profile.
Tuesday: Comment on three industry posts.
Wednesday: Share something you've learned recently.
Thursday: Apply for one global opportunity or internship.
Friday: Connect with one recruiter or professional in your industry.
Bit by bit, you begin to get visible, and you start attracting the right recruiters/opportunities.
Global opportunities aren't only looking for the smartest people but they're looking for people they can find. So don't hide your experience, don't hide your skills, don't wait until you're desperately searching for a job before making yourself visible. Start today: update that profile, share that project, build that network.
Your next opportunity might already be looking for someone exactly like you. Make sure they can find you.
